I went into this trying to find out if the school has made changes since I had been there last. Where were the changes occurring, what has stayed the same, what progress has been made? These where the questions I was searching to find. One big change that I noticed was in their core values. They are working on building students self esteem. This is something I wish they were working towards while I was in school. It’s not that I felt that they were ever bringing my self esteem down, but I don’t think there was any focus on trying to bring it up. I think this is an important thing to focus on. I believe the better someone feels about them selves the harder they will work to satisfy their selves and care about the work they do. One other thing I notice is that they are teaching diversity. I don’t ever remember talking about other cultures and their traditions. I am not surprised that this has changed. I think there is now more of a push to teach about other cultures then there was when I was in school. I am glad that this has been implemented into their core values. It is important for children to learn about other cultures so they can become open mined to other people’s traditions and find them taboo. A few things have stayed the same. I remember my teachers always being very involved with my family. My parents always knew exactly what was going on in the class. They are also still big on testing. While I was looking through the website I found a plan on how to improve test scores. I don’t believe this is something that will change anytime soon, because of the pressure they are under from the state. I just hope they try to improve the score with out putting so much pressure on students. Over all I believe that Lincoln is a great elementary school and feel very privileged that I went there. The school seems to moving forward and making some positive changes.

Lincoln Elementary Mission Statement
Mission Statement
The Lincoln Elementary School Community provides students with the highest quality education attainable through the mastery of basic skills and challenges students to their maximum levels of potential. Lincoln Elementary personnel work as partners with parents and the community to educate and challenge all students to be independent life-long learners. My experience at Lincoln
I went to Lincoln elementary of Laporte Indiana from kindergarten through fifth grade. My experiences at Lincoln were up and down. There were times that I loved school and times that I absolutely hated school. Growing up I had anxiety about school. I would feel sick many mornings before arriving at school and beg my mom to let me stay home. This was a difficult time for me and part of the reason I want to be a teacher today. I always felt that my teachers did not really understand the way I felt about school. I felt like I had good teachers and they all wanted the best for their students, but they did not know how to help me with my anxiety or did not understand. This was the case until second grade that is when I felt like I had a teacher that really understood what I was going through and wanted to do anything to help. She truly turned school around for me. I started to feel more comfortable in class and wanted to contribute. She is one of the reasons I want to be a teacher. It takes a special person to try to understand the feeling of another person and try to help them and that is exactly what she did. Through my experience I think I will be able to relate to many children and help them through their hard times. The rest of my elementary experience was positive it just took that one special teacher to help me through the hard time. I feel fortunate to have attended the elementary school that I did. It was more of a traditional school but I feel that I received a good education from Lincoln Elementary.
Initial thought’s on mission statement
Lincoln elementary mission statement initially sounded great. I strongly agree with their mission and find that it would benefit all students. They put focus on the students without putting an overwhelming amount of pressure on them. I love how it states that their goal is to have each student to reach their maximum potential. I believe that every student is different and should not be expected to be at the same level through out the year. I like that they don’t make the students feel like they all need to be at the same place and understanding exactly the same things at the same time. Their mission also is to be involved with parents and the community. I find it very important to have communication with the parents and all to be on the same page. Their goal is to have their students be life time learners; this takes parents, teachers and the community.
